Buffer integration

Connect Cards to Buffer

Cards can render your carousel as PNGs, upload them to a temporary export bucket, and create posts in your Buffer channels. The integration is still in beta, so the recommended connection method is a personal Buffer API key.

Recommended for now

Personal API key

This uses your own Buffer API limits, so publishing from Cards does not spend the shared beta app limit. It is the best option while we are testing the integration with real workflows.

  • The key is verified with Buffer before saving.
  • Cards stores it encrypted and uses it only for your account.
  • Buffer API keys are account-wide, so only add a key if you are comfortable granting Cards publishing access to your Buffer account.

How to switch to this method

  1. Open Buffer API settings and copy your API key.
  2. Open Profile in Cards and find Publishing.
  3. Paste your Buffer API key into Advanced. If you are currently connected with OAuth, this will replace that connection.
  4. Click Use API key, then reopen Post or schedule.

Beta

OAuth app connection

OAuth is the cleanest long-term flow: you click Connect Buffer, approve the app in Buffer, and Cards receives a revocable token. The problem is that Buffer currently applies a very small shared request limit to app clients.

  • Easier to connect and revoke than copying a key.
  • Temporarily limited in Cards to 3 Buffer post creations per 24 hours.
  • Manual Recheck is disabled for OAuth-created posts while we tune the integration limits.

When to use OAuth

Use it for quick tests or if you do not want to store a personal API key. For regular publishing, use a personal key until Buffer raises the app-client limits.

The basic flow

Open your profile

Go to Profile, then find the Publishing section.

Choose a connection method

Use a personal API key for the most reliable beta experience, or connect with OAuth if you only need a few test posts.

Publish from the editor

Open Post or schedule, choose Buffer channels, add text, then publish now or schedule up to 30 days ahead.
